"As long as I can remember I have loved history, especially from the Civil War era. The men who fought and died for the preservation of our Union and to end slavery are worth remembering and honoring.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), the heir to the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), works to honor our Civil War ancestors and the historic freedoms they fought to secure.
Grant Camp 1863 celebrates the memory of our Civil War veterans by holding an annual Flag Day ceremony, by regularly cleaning and replacing the graves of soldiers and sailors, by decorating cemeteries with American flags on Memorial Day, and by providing school scholarships, civic awards, and educational programs to ensure the lessons of the Civil War are not forgotten or replaced.
Whether you have a Union soldier in your family tree or not, we could use your help to keep Civil War history and the bravery of our veterans alive. Join us!"
Nick Sauer, Commander of U.S. Grant Camp 1863, Department of Illinois, SUVCW
