The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War national organization oversees 32 different Departments and over 200 Camps.

The Department of Illinois, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is the state chapter of our national organization.  The Department oversees 11 Camps.

The American Legion is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, advocating for veterans, service members, and military families while fighting to end veteran suicide. We are grateful for our local American Legions.

For veterans, service to others is a lifetime commitment. From disaster relief to community service and everything in between, service doesn’t stop when we’re done serving. The VFW is all about giving back.

 On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. 

The American Battlefield Trust's enduring legacy is to save endangered battlefields, bring history to life in new ways, and inspire generations to come visit land that is uniquely American. 

The National Civil War Museum is one of the largest museums in the country dedicated solely to the American Civil War. We seek to tell the whole story of this troubled chapter in American history by discussing the causes of the war, the battles that took place during the conflict, and the legacy of the war that remains with us to this day. 

The Civil War was the first war in American history in which a substantial proportion of the adult male population participated. The service records of these men, North and South, are contained in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System.
